To his Excellency,

Per your request this is my report concerning the bodyguard of Lord Telos, the Mul Drax.

To be blunt finding information on this individual was very difficult and it took all my skill and ability to find what little information there was. But as always I was up for the task assigned to me.

The Slave Pen records list Drax as being born 22 years ago. Who requested his birth and by which Dwarven Gladiator is not recorded. What is known is that his first years were spent with several different human and Dwarven “mothers” until he was old enough to start training as a Gladiator, which apparently was the motive for his birth.

(The information provided below is from the recollections of one of the surviving trainers.)
Drax began his training at the age of 6, which is standard for slaves born for the arena. Over the next 8 years he was trained to be a Gladiator. Quite a few of his “classmates” were killed during the training sessions, more than a few by Drax himself. His combat style appears to be to outlast and endue his opponent’s hits while dealing out massive damage of his own. Although lacking in overt honor or fair play he always won his match-ups and took on a “whatever works” mentality to combat.

Drax spent the next 6 years in arena combat. With a winning record he was sold to several different Masters, one deciding to spice up Drax’s appearance by having him extensively tattooed by a Dwarven artist, for although he was a constant winner, his showmanship skills were lacking. His draw and appeal was more about him overcoming great odds than how he won his bouts.

Upon Lord Telos’s 18th birthday his father took him to the pens to purchase a personal protector and bodyguard. He spent the day looking over various possibilities from towering Half-Giants in Heavy Armor to scantily clad Elven female knife masters. All chosen for their appearance and training. Not finding anything exactly to his liking Lord Telos wondered over to the gladiatorial pits and saw Drax in a training bout. He was taking on several opponents at once and although bring wounded he defeated them all. Apparently impressed by his combat prowess and the novelty of having a Gladiator as a bodyguard he asked for a meeting with the tattooed Mul. It is not known what transpired at the meeting but Lord Telos soon bought Drax to act as his personal bodyguard.

Over the next 2 years Lord Telos moved up in position. First within his own house at the deaths of his 2 older brothers, both found in their beds with their heads severed, and his father who died of a stab wound to the hart. Next two of Lord Telos’s rivals died in brutal assaults and the father of his wife, who was originally to marry Lord Telos’s eldest brother, also was found killed. These events propelled Lord Telos to a high place of power in the city with power and wealth unrivaled by almost all of the Dragon Kings servants save for your Excellency.

It would seem that Drax was either directly responsible or was at least present for all of the killings mentioned above. During his time with Lord Telos he had also defended him from at least 4 known attacks and several other rumored incidents including one assault on his house.

Based on this evidence I conclude that Drax be bought off as aside from his current high standard of living he does not seem to have any known tie to Lord Telos, and failing that he be killed immediately or beheaded as an example for others if captured.

Your servant always,

{In a different penmanship written on the bottom of page}
Alexis, you forget, one of Telos’s rivals was my nephew. If this Drax was involved as you say then he shall have a slow death in the arena against odds even he cannot stand against. Good as he may be, he will be worn down and killed for my pleasure at my pleasure.
